Before using Lamisil:
Avoid using Lamisil if you have allergic reaction to it. Also you should inform your doctor
if you had or have severe kidney problems or a history of liver problems;
if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant;
if your immune system is weakened due to some reasons;
if you take any other over-the-counter medicine besides Lamisil, herbal preparation, or dietary supplement; some medications and conditions may interact with Lamisil and increase the possibility of side effects or decrease the effectiveness of the drug.
Consult with your doctor before you stop or start any new medicine.
How to use Lamisil:
Your doctor should give you instructions on how to use Lamisil. Also you can read the label on the medicine for additional information. The drug is taken with or without food for 6 to 12 weeks depending on your condition and as directed by your doctor. Take Lamisil for the full treatment period. Even if the symptoms have improved, keep taking the drug till the end of your therapy because otherwise reinfection can occur.
If you miss a dose of Lamisil, take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for the next one, skip the missed dose of the drug and return to your regular schedule. Do not take double dose of Lamisil, it will only do harm.
It may take several months for your nails to return to their normal appearance after your treatment with Lamisil.
Store this drug at room temperature, away from heat, moisture and light.
Important safety information:
It is not recommended to drink beverages or eat food that have caffeine (eg, coffee, tea, cocoa, cola, chocolate) while you are taking Lamisil. In order to check your health condition lab tests, such as liver function tests, may be performed. Then your doctor will determine if you should take Lamisil further.
Use the drug with extreme caution in children because its safety in children has not been confirmed. It is not allowed to use Lamisil during pregnancy or breast feeding period. The medication can pass into the breast milk.
Possible side effects of Lamisil:
Some people taking have developed severe liver damage leading to liver transplant or death. It is not clear whether Lamisil actually caused the liver damage in these patients. In most cases, the patient had a serious medical condition before taking Lamisil. But in most cases people have no, or minor, side effects. You can experience some of these common side effects: diarrhea; headache; indigestion; taste changes. Contact your doctor if they become bothersome.
Seek medical attention right away if any of these severe side effects of Lamisil occur: severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue; unusual hoarseness); red, blistered, peeling, or swollen skin; symptoms of infection (eg, fever, chills, sore throat); symptoms of liver problems (eg, dark urine; loss of appetite; pale stools; stomach pain; unexplained, persistent nausea; unusual tiredness; vomiting; yellowing of the skin or eyes); unusual bruising or bleeding; vision changes.
